The Taupo tree in the lake…

Although it is similar to that other tree in a lake at Wanaka the Taupo Tree is not that accessible… if you can find it that is. It’s position is or was a bit of a photographers secret as far as it’s location is concerned. This was really to make sure that this tree didn’t suffer from the tourist traffic which would not suit where it is. And it is not alone as there is another tree nearby which is not as photogenic as the “Taupo Tree” it’s still a lone tree in its own right. Probably what you would call the “ugly cousin”.

I have called in many times to visit the tree’s and captured them displaying many differing moods over time.

I hope you enjoy this little collection and if you think a print of one of these to feature on your wall would add to your home environment lets talk…

The classic view looking up the lake towards Taupo town.

Using a long exposure with filters and a zoom lens to make the tree a prominent feature with Motutaiko Island on the left and Mount Tuahara behind Taupo town on the right the tree stands proud with still lake waters creating a sense of calm.

Lookling towards the west at the Taupo Tree.

A alternate view of the Taupo Tree looking in a westerly direction towards Western Bay with the tree with fresh new green leaf cover and the lake waters rippling in a soothing pattern.

A northerly aspect image in black and white with the entrance to Kinlock on the left in the far distance.

Using a black and white processing technique and a longer exposure to flatten the lake waters but also add blur to the leaves on the tree to add a dimension of movement rather being in total contrast to enrich the me against the world feel.

The poor cousin to the Taupo Tree.

The other tree in Lake Taupo which is really close to the other tree but a totally different growth pattern. Again using a longer exposure on a misty cloudy winters morning i have tried to show the everlasting strength that this tree portrays and accentuated the earthy tones in the image to covey a grounding and stubbornness that this tree exudes.

A hi-key version of the Taupo Tree.

Using what’s called a ‘high key’ processing technique to achieve a high contrasting look which accentuates the darker parts of the image namely that Taupo Tree.

Early winters day with the Taupo Tree.

A calm winters morning with mist still obscuring the hills in the background and gentle ripples on the lake water giving a calm restful image with absolutely no wind to speak of with not a sound to be heard and light rain falling.

A winters morning with ‘the other tree’.

The other tree with rain falling on a misty cloudy morning with a solitary duck getting into the picture.

Hopefully this gathering of images from these tree’s have left an impression. If one touches your desire for one to be on your wall space let’s talk….
